The age-old question. Stardust or just dust? A mystery. Born in New York City, Lucinda Winslow grew up in suburban CT, received her BA from Harvard University, and her MA in Opera Directing from Indiana University School of Music.
Her passion for writing, music, and social justice intersect in this book.
She began with writing. After college, with a BA in linguistics and child language acquisition, she joined the WGBH-TV team that pioneered captioning for the hearing impaired, editing and subtitling the ABC News, the children’s show ZOOM, writing original segments on deaf poets, associate-producing two half-hour specials with the National Theater of the Deaf, and writing the storyboard for a children’s imagination book without words, The Bumbershoot (Ginn, 1976), still in print.

She then ran away not to the circus, but to theater and opera directing. After studying Opera Directing at Indiana University, she staged over 60 operas —finding character arcs, plot points, rising action to climaxes, while monitoring off-stage characters and high drama—co-wrote books for four musicals, managed three theaters, and ran a piano studio.
As she returned to writing, social justice also became a growing passion. With her husband, she volunteers with the international anti-poverty non-profit RESULTS, advocating for smart policy to end poverty and racism in the US and around the world, and has published numerous Op-Eds on the subject.
She divides her time between CT and a 130-year-old farmhouse in NH where she writes and gardens. When she can, she reads with and teaches piano to afterschool children. She also loves both cats and birds, a problematic mix. And has it in for rabbits, deer, and lily-eating chipmunks. And dreams of traveling again.
